The Welcoming Congregations network of the Southwest Pacific Synod started in 2014 as a response to the needs of newly arrived immigrant children/youth and families from Central America seeking asylum. Since then, our immigrant congregations have continued to serve the migrant community along with other congregations who have responded to the ongoing immigration crisis with service, hospitality and advocacy. The current need and opportunity have called us to come back together – to rebuild and grow the network.
Goals of our time together:
- Understanding the current state of our immigration system
- Exploring how immigrant churches and non-immigrant churches can collaborate to support ministry to and with immigrants
- Learning about ELCA advocacy opportunities for a more humane and just immigration system
- Rebuilding an ongoing network of mutual support in ministry and advocacy with and for immigrants
We are inviting you to a time of Fellowship and Learning on September 23rd at 12:00pm at Iglesia Luterana de la Gracia/Grace Lutheran Church, 6714 Pine Ave, Bell.
Lunch will be provided.
